Friday Comes (The Re-Manuva)

A 3 track alternative rap/hip-hop single (13m 32s) — released December 10th 2012 on Earnest Endeavours

Released in September, the Love She Wants EP provided an entertaining introduction to The Insomniax; two talented brothers – Kai Gama (Mark Anderson) and Dr Sydney Velvet (James Anderson) – from South-London making hip-hop with a cerebral strut. Alternating between poetic, dreamy rapping and soulful singing, their evocative lyrics capture detailed snapshots of moments in time, whilst musically the material reaches out beyond its hip-hop foundations to touch on dub, bashment and electronic soul. The siblings share a background in London's vibrant spoken word scene, and in terms of musical lineage, might possibly be regarded as not too distant cousins of Ghostpoet, SBTRKT, Tricky or Dels.

In the wake of that EP, The Insomniax cement their credentials as the hot tip for 2013 via a trio of killer reworks. Certified legend of the UK's hip-hop game – Roots Manuva stamps his authority on Friday Comes, embellishing the riddim with trademark panache. Keeping things in the family, Widows' very own Bobby Evans remixes the Friday Comes Re-Manuva for the club, flexing wild digi-dancehall low end and marching military drum manoeuvres; whilst RBMA alumnus and fellow beat-nut Swede:art blesses Oh She Falls with sophisticated ig'nance – all cascading arps, womb-like pads and shoulder lean drums.

Currently hibernating in the studio recording their debut album, 2013 looks set to be a huge year for The Insomniax as recent performances at "Huw Stephens presents…" and the Boiler Room attest.
